Instead, the attention involved Bale and his behavior on the set. Still, much of the negativity surrounding the film had nothing to do with anything that took place on the screen.

"Terminator Salvation" was critically panned, and the movie underperformed at the box office as a result. However, Nolan had to leave the project early on according to IndieWire, and the movie couldn't catch a break after that. Throw in Christian Bale - who was one of the most exciting action stars on the planet at the time thanks to those aforementioned "Batman" movies - as the grown-up John Connor, and "Terminator Salvation" seemed like a winner from the get-go. Hot off the success of " Batman Begins" and "The Dark Knight," Jonathan Nolan was hired to write the story for the sci-fi action blockbuster.

The sequence that sees a trio of them attack a group of gangbangers is zoomed out too far to achieve any sort of cinematic effect."Terminator Salvation" was supposed to be the movie that reinvigorated the franchise following the lukewarm response to "Rise of the Machines." Things got off to an exciting start for the fourth installment too. The T-800s (none of them even remotely modeled after Arnold Schwarzenegger) lack some of the menace inherent to the films. At times his framing choices could use some work, however. He at least gives each character a distinct look and feel and a decent range of emotional expression (even the Kogan Terminator). That's probably a legal necessity, but actor likenesses in comics are usually more trouble than they're worth anyway. Artist Pete Woods makes no attempt to capture the likenesses of actors like Christian Bale or Bonham Carter in this series.

Also promising is a brief sequence focused on an escaped serial killer that will no doubt play into Kogan's larger plans in the same way Wright did. Whether that will be enough to offset the otherwise familiar approach to the conflict remains to be seen. It's clear Kogan's presence in this story will be the main X-factor.

It's fascinating to see a voice of dissension in Skynet's ranks, and the dialogue in these scenes is much stronger and more refined than the mostly generic fare elsewhere in the issue. Kogan plays a much larger role in this story, physically manifesting in the future as a Terminator but retaining her old, human personality. Serena Kogan character (the scientist played by Helena Bonham Carter in Salvation who turned Marcus Wright into a cyborg). Where this first issue does manage to distinguish itself is with the Dr. Even in the future, the material featuring Connor and his forces carries a distinct sense of "Been there, done that." A lone Resistance member stealthily stocks up on weaponry and evades the police. A naked Terminator orders dumbstruck humans to fork over their clothes. The same tropes from the first three movies are there. YoYo Recovering Suits up Someone needs to make Radcliff watch all the Terminator it on himself May Drugged up in the closet LMD. I expected the same approach with this series, but even before we glimpse the world of 2029, Straczynski is diving back into the past as humans and Terminators alike travel back to muck with the timestream. For all its faults, at least Salvation had the novelty of ditching the franchise's increasingly convoluted time travel element and focusing strictly on the post-apocalyptic future. And what the problem really boils down to is an overwhelming sense of familiarity. Unfortunately, despite the winning premise and talented creative team, the first issue of Final Battle left me feeling somewhat ambivalent. Salvation: The Final Battle moves the Skynet War forward a decade to the pivotal year of 2029, when John Connor and his Resistance either successfully destroy Skynet through the magic of time travel or are wiped out completely. The good news is that Dark Horse is giving us a different glimpse of what unfolded after the events of Salvation. That trilogy has been scrapped, and when Terminator finally does return to theaters, it'll be in the form of a reboot. Developed by the now-defunct Swedish studio, GRIN, Terminator Salvation puts you in the role of John Connor in Los Angeles, 2016, when he is an average soldier for the human Resistance. Still, some of the rumored plans for Terminators 5 and 6 sounded interesting, particularly in how they dealt with the concept of the future being uncertain and threats like the T-1000 emerging sooner than they should. It's not necessarily surprising that those plans fell through considering how mediocre Salvation turned out to be. At one point, Terminator Salvation was intended to jump-start a new movie trilogy - one that would chronicle the ever-escalating war between man and machine in the future.
